The part of my brain that writes for kids often flips the script and I write for grown ups. A few of my favorite authors influence my storytelling along with everyday happenstances that always feel like a plot to me.
I recently waited to board a plane and directly behind me was an attorney carrying on an extremely sensitive phone conversation with one of his clients. Why do people on a cell phone think they are not being heard by everyone around them? Of course this turned into a storyline involving corporate espionage in my overactive imagination and I outlined the first three chapters before the flight took off for Mexico.
I am obsessed with several writers. To a person they cause me to work harder on my writing. They are, as they say, in no particular order:
Mo Willems ~ Judith Viorst ~ Mitch Albom ~ Liv Constantine ~ DJ Nash ~ Brigid Kemmerer ~ Barbara Delinsky ~ Jane Green ~ Barbara Taylor Bradford ~ Beau Willimon ~ Dan Fogelman
F. Scott. Fitzgerald and Charles Dickens could write a prescription and I would devour it in one sitting. The Great Gatsby and Great Expectations are the two books I would choose to read over & over if ever stranded on a desert island.
